Like every city in the world, New York has an abundance of intelligent and cultured individuals that bring a lot of social political comment to the table. However, living up to the American stereotype, there are some who have failed to venture out of this extraordinary country and therefore remain a little oblivious to other cultures.

Being a Brit, over the last few months, I have been exposed to many a surprising question and heard several funny discussions regarding our stereotypes. Then there have been the outright random and bizarre statements plucked from the skies of crazy.

While I love New York and its assortment of weird and wonderful people these are some of the 'overheard' random remarks that have given me cause to chuckle.

1) I know I look like it but I’m not a pimp or a drug dealer. I’m just trying to help the homeless.

2) St. Valentine Day definitely does not have an ‘s’ at the end. I hate it when people call it St. Valentine’s, like there’s no ‘s’ there.

3) Person 1: “St. Paddy’s day is my favourite holiday.”

Person 2: “When is it?”

Person 1: “It’s in April.”

4) Are you white? We’re having a bet and we can’t decide if you’re white or black?

5) Do you get black people in the UK?

6) They don’t get snow in Scotland.

7) Everyone in New Zealand looks chinese.

8) I thought welsh people couldn’t speak english.

9) You look transalvanian.

10) Czech isn’t even a nationality.
