Gotham West Market

New York really plays with your perception of the word market. Brits may think of fruit and veg stalls, the occasionally knick knack stand, the mind may even wander to thoughts of car boot sales. In NYC though, a market can mean pretentious and extremely over priced vintage sales. It could mean a hub for swanky eats and quirky shops like Chelsea Market or, in this case, it means a collection of super cool food joints all under one relatively cosy roof.

Gotham West Market is situated on the corner of 11th Ave between 44th and 45th. Walking there you’d fear that you’re about to fall off the edge of the island but at least if you do you know you’ll be well head after a trip to this trendy market.

It’s all clean cut edges and shiny white surfaces but the open space holds some of the best NYC grub around in a casual open plan area. There are ‘8 premiere artisinal food purveyors’ offering a wide variety of sophisticated food choices. There’s the Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop with the best noodles, Choza Taqueria for some Mexican spice, El Colmado offering up tapas, the list goes on and is finished off by NYC Velo, a bicycle shop in the corner. Only in New York right?

For a quieter midtown spot to munch and socialise in a laid back environment, Gotham West Market is definitely a favourite.
